We woke up on Tuesday morning to find it POURING rain. I don't think it's rained in months on the east coast and the day we are flying across the country it decides to rain the hardest! The morning started early when Ryan left to go to the airport around 5:30am to pick up his sister Beth. She took a red-eye from San Diego on Monday night and flew into Philly so she could fly back with us holding a baby! We were so thankful!! Once Beth got to our house, we had a few hours to pack up, feed the babies and load the car---and then check on our flight one more time---only to find it had been delayed. Since they were telling us it was only a 40 minute delay, we decided to head to the airport the same time we were planning to anyway, just so we could get there and get through all the lines and not be rushed. We all know that Philly airport is the WORST with lines, security, delays, etc, so we figured we should just get down there because we didn't know what the day would hold. We left the house at 10:30am and arrived at the airport by 11:20am. Thankfully the line to check bags was not too long (and someone saw us and moved us right to the front!!) Then we had to wait in line for security, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. We knew what to expect this time so we had babies out of their carseats, and the carseats out of the strollers, our shoes off, and all our other bags ready to load through the x-ray. We got to our gate and then we just had to wait and wait. Our 1:40pm flight didn't even board until right around 3:30pm. That was a long wait at the airport for the boys---only to have a 6 hour flight ahead of them. But they are so good! They are just seasoned travelers and played it totally cool. They knew that there was absolutely nothing they could do, so they just rolled with it. It was great. Because our plane originated in New Hampshire, there were 45 people on the plane already, so even though we were in line to pre-board, they took all the wheelchair people first, and then we were the second in line with children, so by the time we actually boarded, the plane was half full! So this time we just went straight to the back of the plane. The flight attendants were great again! One funny story from the plane is that right before we boarded, I checked all their diapers---no poo, all clean. On the way out to Philly, I only had to change Dylan's diaper once, so I was sort of expecting the same. But oh no. Some time between when I checked his diaper right before boarding and by the time we got to the back of the plane, the baby that I was holding, Andrew, pooed! A big, stinky one! So I had to change his diaper on the floor on the back of the plane before the rest of the people had even boarded! Then I was giving him his bottle during the take-off and he pooed again! About 2.5 hours into the ride, he did it AGAIN! 3 times! And Danny (who Ryan was holding) went twice! I couldn't believe it! It was like they were saving up all their poo for that plane ride!
We made it back safely and had Ryan's parents there to pick us up from the airport (luggage, 2 strollers, 3 babies in carseats takes up a lot of space!) and we took 2 cars back to our house.
Again I am amazed how in only 2 days the boys are back to their schedule --totally adjusted to west coast time again.
Now we're back and ready to party for Jill's wedding on Saturday!
At the airport, getting ready to...wait at the gate for hours!

Aunt Beth saves the day and flies across the country and back in less then 24 hours all so she can snuggle with Dylan!
