Doctor's Appt. --Take two!

Today was the "real" doctor's appointment for Danny (see yesterday's post for that story!) Ryan's mom came up again to drive me over and Dylan and Drew stayed here with my mom, and two special helpers--Janet and Peggy. The boys were so lucky to have such good helpers today! And the best part--Janet and Peggy are both Alpha Phis--talk about sisters coming to another sister's need!
The doctor was so impressed with how well Danny has been doing at home-- of course-no surprise! We KNEW we just had to get him home from the hospital and give him some love!!
As of last Thursday, Dylan weighed 6 pounds, 7.5 oz (wow!). Andrew weighed 5 pounds, 11 oz. Since that was last Thursday, I'm sure they are much bigger today!! And here's the great news---today Danny weighed a whopping 5 pounds, 13.5 oz!!!!! That is after being born at 3lb, 14oz and coming home from the hospital at 4lb, 7oz. He has grown so much here at home!!! We are so proud of these growing, healthy boys!!

Our great helpers!

Off to the doctor's.....but wait....

All day today we were ready to Danny to the doctors for his check-up. Because he came home later then his brothers, he is not on the same schedule for office visits. This was going to the last appointment they would be separate, and their next appt. at the end of June, all 3 would go together. So this morning my mom and I planned our day around Danny going to the doctors. We picked out his outfit, packed the diaper bag, had Ryan's mom come down to drive Danny and I, while she would stay here at home with Dylan and Andrew. All set.
Ryan's mom came over and we got Danny all set in the car seat and loaded into the car. We were about half-way there when my cell phone rang....it was my mom. The doctor's office just called the house to confirm our doctor's appt. for Danny for tomorrow. TOMORROW??? Can you believe it? I was taking my baby to the doctor's on the WRONG DAY!!!!! Must be sleep deprived! haha! I could have sworn our appt. was on Tuesday, but apparently it is tomorrow, Wednesday. Oh well! We circled back and came home. We'll do the real thing tomorrow! Too funny!

Out for a walk!

Just like the baths, going out for a walk around the block is a process too! Today was our second walk and we're still trying to get the hang of it. My mom and I took the boys for their first walk in their strollers (one double and one single--and we mix the boys up in them) we went at 2:30 in the afternoon and it ended up being way too hot. So we planned this morning to go around 11:15ish, before their noon feeding, so it would be a little cooler. We probably should have changed them out of their sleep sacks and into their footie outfits at their 9am feeding so we could just scoop them up and put them into the carseats/strollers at 11. However, we are still new at this whole thing and didn't think about that until later--oh, around 11am when we decided to go. Then we had to change each of their diapers and outfits, get them into their carseats, get the carseats into the strollers, and then we were off. The funny thing is that after all of that--it was about 11:50 and my mom and I just looked at each other and laughed since they eat at noon!!! We decided after all that effort we better go for at least a little stroll! Ryan came with us pushing the double stroller and I had the single. It was a beautiful day and the boys really enjoyed it. Now they are fed (a little after their regular noon time, but that is ok!) and all are sleeping (a rare thing). Here are some pics of the day.

Bath time x3!!!!!

Today was the first bath time with all three boys home. Here was the game plan: Ryan, my mom, and Ryan's mom each took care of one baby. They undressed him in the pack & play downstairs and brought him into me (I was the "bath station") in the kitchen where we had the bath tub set up. Together we would wash that baby, and I would hand the baby off to that person in a towel. Then they would bring the baby upstairs to get diapered, changed, fed, rocked and put down for nap time. I stayed in the kitchen and just waited for the next person to bring me a baby to wash. Phew! I don't know who was more tired after bath time--us 4 adults, or the 3 screaming babies. But there are some great pictures in the next few posts of their experience today!

Lots of family helpers!

We are lucky to have so much help! This past week Aunt Beth took vacation and was such a huge help with the boys. Aunt Jill was home for the weekend and was also ready for lots of feedings, changings and snuggle time. And of course my mom and Ryan's parents got in lots of time with the boys for the first weekend of all three boys home!!

Latest news on Danny....

If all goes well tonight, Danny is COMING HOME tomorrow (Friday!) at noon!!!!!!
We are so excited!!

And the "experiments" continue....

Hard to believe that one week ago--last Thursday--was when we brought Dylan home to be with Andrew. Only one week??? So crazy! I feel like it's been much longer then that!! I'm sure all first time parents must go through that stage where you just have to figure some things out, and of course we are no exception. I feel like we are learning so much about their personalities with each passing day and learning things that work and don't work.
For example, one thing that is working is our 3 hour feeding schedule. We are on a 12, 3, 6, 9 schedule and the boys seem to have adjusted their internal clocks to adapt to this. Sometimes they wake up before their time and need to be held, other times we are going in to their room and waking them for their feeding, but no matter if they were awake or asleep, they seem to be doing well in the eating department. One thing that we've had to adjust (I can't believe I'm saying this....) is the bottle situation. I'm sure you know how PROUD I was of the beautiful (handsome) polka-dotted, color-coded bottles for each boy. Well...when we brought them home from the hospital, they were used to these hospital brand bottles, so we decided to help ease their transition between hospital & home and stick with those bottles for the first few days. Those bottles worked well, but were not for "long-term" use. So on Monday morning we transitioned into my favorite color-coded bottles--for my "blue baby" Drew, and my "yellow baby" Dylan. Hmmm. Not so good. The bottle brand (which I only discovered yesterday!!) is a great one, however is better suited for babies who switch between bottle-feeding and breastfeeding, or who have eased off the breastfeeding. The nipples were way too large then their mouths were used too and they were getting these funny red marks (ring around the mouth!) around their lips. We decided to do some investigating and went out and bought a new brand of bottle yesterday to try out. (We only invested in 6 of this new kind in case this brand doesn't work out either--since we now have a total of 24 polka-dotted bottles that we're not using at all!!) Still too early to tell if this new brand will work better since we only started it late yesterday, but so far it seems to be ok.
Another thing we're trying to figure out is when/how to give these men their vitamins--that smelly, yucky green liquid that they do not like at all. We have been giving them their vitamins mixed in a bottle with 10ml's of formula at their 6pm feeding. Once they gulp that down first (surprise boys!) then we give them another bottle made up with just formula (their reward for taking their vitamins). We *thought* that this was a great idea, however now we are not so sure. Right after their 9pm feeding, the boys are soooooooooooo fussy, gassy, and just overall miserable (read: screaming their lungs out). We are thinking that maybe this is when the vitamins are settling into their stomachs and making them so miserable. So....this morning we decided that instead of doing their entire dose of vitamins at the 6pm feeding and having the boys so unhappy (to put it mildly) at 9pm, we'd try to give them half a dose at 9am and half a dose at 3pm. That way it's not as potent, and it's not settling in their stomachs at nighttime. Sounds like a good theory, right? Again, time will tell as we started it this morning. We'll see what it's like at 9pm. (The last few nights have been that our 9pm feeding has just rolled right into our midnight feeding as the boys have been up that whole time.)
We are also learning about the sheer amount of diapers & formula that we need. You'd think that one of those cans of powdered formula would last a while, but oh no! They are going so fast (one can in about 3 days!! yikes! and that is with only 2 boys!) Also, we bought some pampers preemie diapers, but not that many thinking that the boys would be moving to newborns pretty soon. And while they probably will, I did not plan on the amount of diapers that they would go through a day...all those little "extra" changing times, etc. We offically "ran out" of the preemie size the other night (not the time to run out!) and had to use the newborn size ones. I think that night we went through our entire collection of little sleep sacks for the boys as the diapers were huge on their little bodies and they wet right out of them! Couldn't believe when we saw the amount of laundry to do the next morning between the sleep sacks, the blankets, crib sheets, etc. Ha ha. So I just ordered a ton of formula and preemie size diapers and had them delivered yesterday (phew!).
So many funny stories and it's only been a week!! We're learning!! And I'm sure we'll have lots more stories as more things work/don't work. Danny may be the smartest guy to let us experiment on his brothers and come home when we have things figured out!!
New project for the day....bathtime!!!! We'll see how that goes.......
